I found this wood, previously chewed on a bit at the ends by a beaver or two, on the bottom of a mountain river at around 9,500 feet. It was completely waterlogged, so I put it in my 15 gallon current "bullhead fry" tank with 7 black bullhead fry. It neither has nor had any bark when I found it, I think the tree is a willow or an alder perhaps. Now, the wood is splotched with purple. I think it's some kind of bacteria, and it's kind of cool. It hasn't affected the bullheads or rotted the wood in any sense. Are there any theories to what is causing it to be purple? Besides a bacteria?
