Thread: Your opinion...

    Hello all!

Just wondering if anyone could give me an opinion on how much longer my fishless cycle will take. Most recent info on the cycle progress is as follows:

August 28- Re-dosed with ammonia to 4ppm (reasoning can be found in other threads)

August 29- Amm: 4ppm, NitrItes: 0, NitrAtes: 0; added sponge filter mud from lfs

    August 30 through September 2- Amm: <4ppm, NitrItes: 0

    September 3-Amm: ~2ppm, NitrItes:0, NitrAtes: 5ppm

    September 4- Amm: 1-2ppm, NitrItes:0, NitrAtes: 5-10ppm

    September 5-Amm: ~1ppm, NitrItes:0, NitrAtes: 5-10ppm

    September 6-Amm: 0.5ppm, NitrItes:0, NitrAtes: 5-10ppm

    September 7-Amm: 0.25-0.5ppm, NitrItes:0, NitrAtes: 10-20ppm

    September 8-Amm: 0-0.25ppm, NitrItes:0, NitrAtes: 20-40ppm

    September 9-Amm: 0ppm, NitrItes:0, NitrAtes: 20-40ppm

So...it took 10 days from when I added the sponge filter mud until my ammonia was 0 (dropped from 4ppm).
I re-dosed the tank tonight (Sept. 9) to 2ppm ammonia. I know the goal is for ammonia and nitrItes to be 0 after 24 hours. This first ammonia drop had 6 days from when the ammonia was at 2ppm until it hit 0. I'm assuming it probably won't hit 0 after 24 hours this first re-dose, but any ideas on how much longer this cycle will take? My temp is steady at 84 and pH is steady around 7.6

It seems to be done cycling. The test will be how long it takes for the ammonia to go back to 0ppm. I would test again in 24 hours and see where it is, if it's 0ppm and still 0ppm nitrites I would say it is cycled. It's difficult to say how long it will take for the ammonia to completely drop because every tank and cycle is different, but from what I am reading in your post, if it isn't done already, it should only take a few more days.

I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.
Tolerance is a great thing to have, so is the ability to shut up.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

Good luck and I hope there is 0ppm ammonia tomorrow when you check.

Lol, I would have tested too. Make sure to test nitrites as well later, you need them both at 0ppm. Since there has been no nitrites since you added the stuff from the LFS I don't think there will be any now, but better to be sure by testing.

Yeah I will definitely test Nitrites tonight at the 24 hour mark. Tank is going to be ready just in time for me to go out of town for 5 days :-\ thankfully I'm not going to be too far away...May still get my fish (if it's ready) and just come check on them
