We bought a pair of Taiwan reef cichlids from a guy, and he threw in three of these little guys. They were an inch long at the time and now are almost two inches. Both pictures show the same fish. The second picture is him and his reflection.

I sincerely hope the 75 gallon will be the eventual home of these.

Looking at the overal shape I'd say it's something central or even north american.

Pelmatochromis nigrofasciatus is indeed a very good call. Seems plausible. If it is then it's a challenge since this is distinctly a softwater species.

Interesting. Yes, I think it's a good bet that these fish are Pelmatochromis nigrofasciatus. Although stripes aren't really visible yet; the most prominent feature is the dorsal fin spot.

We did get the 75 gallon as a cichlid tank. It's all set up with caves but still cycling. These guys are currently in with the tetras but I'm afraid they're going to start eating them any day now.
