Maybe it's almost over...
Been fishless cycling my 46 gallon bowfront for 4 1/2 weeks...been getting really frustrated with the lack of progress (see previous threads). Tested my tank tonight, 6 nights after adding sponge filter squeezings to my tank, and my ammonia was between 1 and 2ppm (had been a solid 4ppm when I added the squeezings), my nitrites were 0 (have pretty much been 0 the entire time with the exception of some mystery nitrites a while back but figured out where that was from). On a whim, tested my nitrates, and BAM there were 5 ppm! Yay. Now I just have to wait for the ammonia to drop to 0, dose it back up to 2ppm ammonia, and hope it disappears in 24 hours! Then water change, then fish :D46 gallon bowfront: 1 angelfish, 1 GBR, 1 albino longfin BNP, 3 sunset mickey mouse platies, 3 blue mickey mouse platies, 9 cherry barbs, 9 harlequin rasboras

Exactly right. Once the ammonia drops to 0ppm, if you still have 0ppm nitrites and some nitrates, I would go ahead and add 2ppm ammonia once more just to be sure the tank is cycled. When I go fishing I just place a sharp rock in the water and sit there waiting for all the dead fish to float to the top... Brutal honesty will be shown on this screen.
I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.
Tolerance is a great thing to have, so is the ability to shut up.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
