Good evening fellas! i just have a "Quicky" atm as i'm very unsure if I'm overstocked with my 30 Gallon Tank. Right now it's inhabitants is 1 Ryukin and 1 Oranda "Bullhead' Goldfish. am I pushing it? or is it fine? Won't be upgrading till I grad from College. That's why I'm pretty worried. Can't hurt to be sure.

I think you are a bit overstocked. Definitely if these are fully grown, mature fish. What's your maintenance routine?

And how much filtration do you have?

Once a week, 50% W/C. :) and the filter is a Powerhead-Over the top filter. It's kind of like a sump type Filter that's place on top with a power head used as the "Filter" Inside the tank.

I don't quite understand what filter type you are talking about. D you think you would be able to fit it into one of the following categories of commonly used filters?

    1. The hang on back(HOB) filter. Narrow box with a curved lip(usually where filtered water comes back out) that hangs at the top rim of the tank. Water movement is driven by an impeller.

    2. Canister filter. A (well) canister that sits below the tank with two long tubes running up into the water. Water enters one tube and exits the other.

    3. Internal filter. Usually small, the body of the filter is designed to the completely submerged by water. Can be air pump or impeller driven. Most internal filters likely will not be able to keep up with the waste produced by two large goldfish.

    4. Sponge filter. A sponge with a hollow tube sticking up from it. Air driven usually.

    It's like this one :)

It uses a power head that has an 200 Gph / 800 Lph that sucks in water bringing it to the "Top box" where Media is located and the top box has a hole on its bottom part/last part of the box or rather an out take to return water to the Aquarium.

I've never seen a filter like that before. Do you know what tank size the filter is rated for? What's the exact make and model number?

I'm suprised too that it's not that popular in any forums. It's the best one i could find here in our LPS. I forgot though! lost the box sometime ago, as my dad bought the filter. I think it was rated for something like 75G. due to it's GPH. I did put a pvc to reduce the flow that the Power head produces, it was just too strong for the 30G. The water was literally Turning round and round like a toilet bowl that was flushed XD

Might be worth fitting a double drilled (extra holes) spray bar. That'll reduce the turbulence without affecting the turnover of the filter.
