    Perhaps it took two weeks for ammonia or nitrites to accumulate to levels that there fish were unable to take?

    But this is all speculation. The only way to know for sure is to have test results of your water, so we can either determine this was indeed the cause, or rule it out and look for something else.

    i have had swordtails for a few years and mine would die when i got them from the pet store and put them into my tank. Then i started putting slime in the tank before putting the fish in and everyone lived. They may be sensitive to being moved from one tank to another. I also changed the water in the tank right before adding the fish and before adding the slime.
