DIY HOB Refugium
I saw on a lot of forums that people were converting their filters from previous setups into HOB refugiums. So I decided to cut turn my Penguin Bio wheel 150 that I got with my tank into on.
So far, I've cleaned the crap out of it. I used my dremel to cut down the top of the filter so that only the intake pump part is covered.
Removed the Biowheel.
I will getting a small lamp to place over the media tray once I figure out what Media to use.
Here's what It looks like right now.
Haven't decided if I'll be adding a Surface skimmer to it instead of the normal intake.
Once I find the right light fixture to place of the Media tray all will be well.

basically, the HOB refugium will allow him to grow out macro algae aswell as small pods. the macro algae will keep ph stable and consume nitrate, while the pods are a great food source for many saltwater critters.Thar she blows!!!
