Default Coral vs algae on same piece of rock

Just wondering if what I'm thinking is correct or if I'm over reacting.

My Green Star Polyp coral is attached to a piece of rock about the size of a softball. It started to get some green algae growing on it in spots. I moved the rock lower in my tank (it was 6 inches from the surface, now it's 10 inches from the surface) and the GSP are really loving it.
Should I remove the algae growth on this rock or leave it be? My Turbo's due graze over this rock but are not putting a dent in the algae, same as my blue legged hermits. The rock looks neat with both the green star polyps and the algae but I'm afraid the algae may continue to spread over the coral.
Will the coral hold it's own ground or will the algae take over? I don't know the type of algae this is but in a few words it's, dark green, dense, about 1/2" long and grows in patches where the coral is not.
My thinking is to remove the rock and pick off the algae.

Looks like some hair algae growing there. Once it gets longer than around 1/4 to 1/2 inch in length, there are not too many critters that will touch it. Might be best to manually pull it off by hand
If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

Thanks Cliff. Even though it looks cool at the moment I had that feeling as well.

Look into hydrogen dipping, it will melt those suckers (not the coral)

Do you mean hydrogen peroxide ?

There are some risks, and it is not good for all types of corals, but others have used it successfully. I would not recommend trying that with freshwater as the dip will be stressful enough on the corals.

Thanks for that suggestion itaydadon. I ended up putting the gsp into a container of tank water and manually pulling off the algae. I used a brand new toothbrush on the algae which wasn't too close to the polyps. It isn't 100% algae free but what algae is left is very short. Mind you it took the better part of an hour.
