    Default Platy? Who's your daddy?

My platy girls (red wag & mickey mouse) haven't been exposed to a male (other than guppies) for about 4-6 months. A few weeks back when cleaning the tank I come across an oddly colored fry that doesn't look like typical guppy fry. I toss it in a grow out tank with two gup fry I rescued the previous week. It became very apparent it was different because of coloring, size, and temperament. Last week or so they all went into the harlequin tank to grow some more and this morning I'm looking and it's developing the "mickey mouse" spots on the tail.

Can she have stored sperm that long?

    Must be the season.

Yes, it is possible for female platy's to store sperm for up to six months.
If it's called tourist season why can't I shoot them?
Everything happens for a reason. Sometimes that reason is you are stupid and make bad decisions.

I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.
A moderator on a fish forum should be able to identify an oscar... Don't you think?

It was funny to watch~we'd been raising guppy fry for years and to have this look and especially act so much different than any gup fry in the past was a fascinating insight into different species natural behavior.

We did not witness the live birthing process...more fry could have become snacks for momma or her companion
