You've gotten good advice. I would be curious to know how long you've been at your fishless cycle and if you've been dosing your tank with ammonia and if so, how much.
If you've been dosing ammonia and the seeded filter media you're getting from your LFS is enough to sustain your 46 gal tank, then you should stock some fish within a day or so, so the bacteria doesn't die. Before you stock, though, be sure you check your ammonia, nitrite and nitrate with an API liquid test kit. If ammonia and nitrite are anything but 0, and you don't see nitrates, then your tank isn't cycled and you may need to dose a little more ammonia. See the stickie in my signature line for more clarification.
and do continue to ask questions.
    good luck

I began the cycle about 2 weeks ago; dosed the tank to 4ppm using the Ace brand Janitorial Pure Ammonia; using the API liquid test kit my ammonia went down to 2 about a week into the cycle but hasn't changed since then, including after adding the substrate from the LFS. Also haven't had any nitrites show up yet. I know once my ammonia hits 0 I need to dose it again to half my original amount (2ppm) and watch for nitrites and that once ammonia and nitrites are 0 with nitrates showing up within 24 hours of dosing the tank with the ammonia the tank is cycled and I can add fish.

Sounds like you have a good understanding of the process, I hope the cycled media from your LFS gets the cycle moving along again for you.
When I go fishing I just place a sharp rock in the water and sit there waiting for all the dead fish to float to the top... Kingfisher

I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.
Tolerance is a great thing to have, so is the ability to shut up.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

Agree - you do know what you're doing thumbs 2: - some people are so eager to put fish in a tank but you understand that your parameters need to read a certain way before you buy anything.

Yeah I majored in biology in college so I understand the nitrogen cycle quite well. And I have read the fishless cycle sticky and spent several hours reading posts other people have put up with questions regarding cycling :-) I am impatient to get fish but I want a safe home so I have happy fish

the good news is, when your cycle is complete (most likely within a week or two) you can add all of your stock to the tank at once rather than adding a few at a time several weeks apart. So it will be worth the wait. :o)
What is your stocking plan? And photos are a must :o)

I had posted my stocking plan in a previous thread but I have changed it slightly. I plan on 1angelfish, 1 German blue ram (I know I need to keep an eye on the ram and the Angel together), 4 African dwarf frogs (I have an extra tank in case I need to move them to a shallower tank-will keep an eye on them, I've heard conflicting info that they will be fine in my tank and then some have said they won't), 3 dalmatian mollies, 3 blue platies, 3 sunset platies, 9 cherry barbs, and 9 harlequin rasboras.

I will definitely post pics once it's stocked. I have a pic of it with just its decor do I will try to figure out how to post it

I think I remember that now. I'd be afraid of the frogs. the tank is probably too deep and they need to surface but sounds like you have a good back up plan if it doesn't work out.
I'd also hold off on the ram for several months. they like a mature tank and can be very sensitive to new set ups. All sounds great otherwise. You'll love your harleys. I currently have a school of 12 and may bump it up more. they look great in numbers.

Yeah I really want the frogs so I will be keeping a close eye on them just in case. I will wait for a while to add the ram in so it will be happy in my tank
