AC 110 question: There is a ton of "sponge" and a little bag of biomax. I want to reverse that. Could I cut the sponge down from 3-1/2" thick to about 1" thick and fill in the rest with ceramic media? The sponge is mechanical filtration right? I will be running a pre-filter over the intake.

Yes, that's one of the great things about any aquaclear you are able to customize your filtration.

    Thanks again!

I chopped the sponge down and added 780 grams of ceramic media on top of the biomax that came with the filter. That left a block of sponge that I was able to chop into a square and punch a hole in it and put it over the intake tube for the prefilter.

I added ammonia today so the cycle has begun...

I've got nitrites already!! I added an "instant cycle" product and it's actually working! (not really instant, but definitely faster!)

Here's where I am 1 week and 1 day after first dosing ammonia!

Looks like your cycle is coming along fine...not sure about the 'insta cycle" stuff, never tried it before...how many PPM of ammonia are you dosing daily?

I dosed to about 3ppm initially. I haven't re-dosed yet because (as of last night) ammonia wasn't quite 0. I have a feeling ammonia will be 0 when I get home from work. If it is I will re-dose to 2ppm.

Yeah figured I would try the supplement as an experiment. Last time I fishless cycled a tank it took longer to get to the nitrites stage...
