What online design are you using? I and Slaphppy just built our stands from the same design I found online.

Will do a 3/16 glass lid also... thanks gronlaura!!

If you are having glass cut for you, you could also do a DIY glass cover. I hate the plastic back part of the purchased glass covers, so I am going to use this design on my dial 29 gals. Here is the link -

Your tank looks just like the 75 gal I bought on CL, same green silicone and everything. I couldn't get the marks off the glass and had to ditch the tank. I tried everything and the glass wouldn't come clean.

I like those lids! Might try them on this tank, and they would be perfect for my 20 long! Thanks for the link!!

That is the stand we built! Here are the photos I found online (design credit to Brandon Klaus) that I used to build my stand (just from the photo) -

This stand has more front to back bracing than the design you are using. For a 75 gal you would need at least 3 center braces (I needed only 2), both top and bottom. If using a canister filter, be sure to leave enough space between the braces for filter placement.

Here are the 2 stands I completed (from a couple of weeks ago, prior to being finished, trimmed out and painted) - with feline construction assistants, Gucci (left) and Meecho.

My build info is in my dual 29 gal journal (link in my sig) - starting at post #28.

Also take a look at Slaphppy's thread, www.aquaticcommunity.com/aquariumforum/showthread.php?t=113666&page=8, post #303 to see how really good it looks painted.

On the stand: if I use 2x6's for the top horizontal boards do I need vertical supports in the middle? (they aren't there in the design) I would like to have the middle wide open, but I don't want the stand to "sag" in the middle...

A 75 gal tank weighs about 900 lbs. The 2x6s won't sag, but being that the tank is supported by the 2x6 top rectangle (your tank is supported only by the tank frame), you want to make sure it is very stable. The center braces don't support the tank, in fact they should be attached about 1/4 inch below the top of the 2x6s, but they add stability to the 2x6 rectangle, making sure it doesn't bow to the outside under the weight of the tank. Same with the bottom rectangle.

I understand the need for bracing from front to rear. Just to be clear, you are saying I shouldn't need supports from the top to the bottom in the middle, I can build the stand as pictured with the added braces like the first pic you posted? Lots of weight, want to do it right...

I apologize, I misunderstood your question. It's late in the day, at work, on a Friday.

If it was me, I would add a center vertical support, front and back.

No apologies necessary. Thanks for the advice!! Seems like center supports might be a good idea with that much weight... I will add them...
