  1. Default Mystery Snail Eggs

    0 Not allowed!
This morning I found my first batch of mystery snail eggs (must have been laid last night, didn't see them before bed) and they must have fell to bottom of tank where I found them. I took them out and put them in a Tupperware filled with the aquarium water before rushing off to work so they would not be eaten. While at work I researched and the eggs are supposed to be out of water! I did not know this its my first batch and there were in the bottom so I thought that where they were laid. How many hours will they survive submerged since I don't know where they were laid last night and I am stuck at work today!
    Thank you!

Are you wanting to keep these snails if they hatch?...you will have hundreds...I have no idea how long they will last in the water, but I can tell you this...if they are indeed mystery snail eggs...we had 2 batches laid on the underneath of our 10 gallon tank lid...We already had 3 snails, did not want anymore, so I removed them...but somehow, at least 6 of them survived in the tank after I thought I had removed all of them, and they are growing quickly...I will have another tank to re-home these in, however

Thanks for the great response! And yes I was going to try to get them to survive. I will give survivors to friends or my favorite fish store.

You are welcome!...kudos to you for wanting to raise them, instead of simply tossing them out..I hope they survive the dunking..here is a link that another member gave me that may help you raise your snails: http://msjinkzd.com/news/articles/in...il-clutches-2/

I think it's doubtful that your snail eggs will hatch at this point. Generally, as Slappy said, the eggs clutches will be laid above the water line but close to the water. they need to be out of the water to hatch. I think you'd just as well toss this clutch. I have no doubt you'll have several more clutches in the future.

I have had 4 clutches in the last month - all on the underside of the tank lid and I left them there. 2 eventually burst open and dropped baby snails. I've also been told that you can take a razor blade and carefully scrape the clutch off the surface of the tank and transfer it to a piece of Styrofoam that you then float in the tank until they hatch. Haven't tried it myself.
