I would venture to say he is probably twice her mass . At their last mating session SHE beat HIM up and messed up a couple of scales on his upper lip. Since then they are more like roomates than mates but I trying to find out what I can do to maybe set the mood . Wish us luck. pic in next post

Thanks Crispy . Would you have any ideas on putting them in the MODE to entice mating. How would I go about simulating the rainy season? Do I need to feed them a certain food ? Should I post this in another section?

To entice breeding behavior there are several things you can try. Feeding live and high protein foods. If you feed live fish, don't use feeder goldfish as they aren't healthy. If you can breed your own guppies, that's the best way. If you get fish from a store, QT them for at least a week, you can gut load them high quality food during this time. Worms and insects also work very well, JD's eat things like that in the wild. I like super worms. Food intended for Flowerhorns is usually very high in protein and great for getting some fish in the mood. I use Chingmix staple for my JD's. If you do worms or any long insects, make sure to cut them down a bit so they aren't super long. Make sure not to overfeed as well.

To simulate the rainy season, you can do water changes with colder water. 50% water change with water that is a couple degrees colder can help.

awrighty then . I did the WC with little cooler water . They eat crickets and worms EXCLUSIVELY. What can I give to the FOOD to up the protein level . I'll try to find that Flowerhorn food and try it to . Thank you all , and keep the suggestions coming.
