Transferring 10gal to 50gal
I have had a 10gal tank for a year now, but its a little overstocked. So I purchased a 50gal tank. I am now trying to figure out how to transfer everything from my old 10 gal into my new 50gal without having to repeat the nitro cycle all over again in the new tank. I have immersed the biomass part of my new 50 gal filter into my old 10 gal tank in the hopes of transferring some of the bacteria easily. I am willing to let this process take weeks or even a month but I do have one problem....I only have one tank space available in my house and therefor cannot fill the 50 gal until its in its new place where the old 10 gal was(children and pets...nowhere safe except the tank shelf). Is there any standard way to go about this process of transferring the community to a new tank? Any help would be appreciated.

Put the fish in buckets, transfer all filter media and as many decoration to the new tank, fill the new tank, add fish, and keep an eye on parameters. Remember, as long as you don't have any new fish, the only thing changing is the amount of water, not the amount of bio-filtration or the amount needed. You should be able to transfer most of the tank's useful bacteria.
Did that make sense?
