Tricky to catch, impossible to kill without harming the shrimp. Keep an eye out and hope they will only take a few shrimplets.

Key feature of these is the 3 pronged tail, if you got one looking vaguely like this but without that trident on the back you got dragonfly and those are bad news.

Dragonfly larvae are a lot different, much fatter and bigger and way more dangerous to your fish. I had a couple (or maybe a few) of them in a tank that all but wiped out the bottom dwellers and a good part of the small top dwellers in that tank.
If it's called tourist season why can't I shoot them?
Everything happens for a reason. Sometimes that reason is you are stupid and make bad decisions.

I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.
A moderator on a fish forum should be able to identify an oscar... Don't you think?

Pop over to a Singapore aquascaping forum.. those guys often have problems with dragonfly. Only a diving beetle larvae can do even more damage.

Anyway, to recap for anyone else finding this thread:

    Damselfly:

Built varies but notice the tails

    Dragonfly:

Diving beetle (not to be found in north-america afaik)

I've seen dragonfly larvae catch adolescent or near adult sticklebacks. I've seen diving beetle larvae eat adult sticklebacks without issue and they're know to attack fully grown rudd when hungry.
