  1. Unhappy Something is wrong with my fish. eat but spit it out?

I have a mature 75 gall saltwater reef tank. I have had the same 7 fish in the tank for several years. About 2 months ago I noticed that my Maroon clownfish acted hungry but would eat and then spit out his food. He retreated to the back of my tank and was not as social. I treated the tank for 7 days with Melafix. He was not his normal self but did seem to get some better except that his fins became very ragged looking. Last week I came home from work and he was at the bottom of the tank gasping and was very discolored up around his head and gills. I immediately started retreatment with the Melafix but lost him in 2 days. Now my Sailfin Tang is displaying the same behavior of eating and spitting it out. He seems hungry but eats and then spits it out in a few seconds. Otherwise his behavior and appearance are normal. What is causing this and how do I stop it?

If there is no signs of flashing or odd swimming behaviors, then it would sound more like internal parasites or fulkes to me.

I would do a few larger water changes and run carbon for a few days to get rid of the Melafix. Once that is done, treat the whole tank with Parzi-Pro following the directions on the bottle.

I have no feather dusters but I do have a beautiful tube anemone. Will the Parzi-pro bother him?

I have used prazi-pro with a BTA in the tank before and it never effect him in any way

The only contraindications for PraziPro are if you are culturing flatworms. Otherwise the bottle says the stuff is extremely safe for all aquariums.

Just one question - how old is the food? How long has it been open?

I'm only asking as mine spit out the food when it becomes stale. Probably not particularly helpful, but just in case.
