  1. Default Greentoads41' "No idea what else to do with it" tank.

    Hello....
I have 2 other tanks, a ten gallon (shrimp) and a thirty (planted south american-ish). I had this 15 gallon in storage, and I bought some sponge filters, and now it just so happens that the tank is now up and running. There's one sponge filter and one Hob on it right now, both fitted for about 20 gallons. To have a continuing ammonia source for the filters, I went to my irrigation-fed pond and got 7 common shiners and 7 black bullhead fry. They are quite entertaining to see in a tank. But, what do to in the long term? I have many thoughts about this...

    2. corydoras breeder
    3. pair of dwarf cichlids
    4. another shrimp tank
    5. shell dweller
6.fry grow out tank for pond fish (sunfish, bluegill, catfish)
    7. native biotope- same fry as above, but with maybe some land, tadpoles, a toad, a crayfish, maybe even algae.
    8. endlers
My pH is a little high, around 8.1. But that hasn't stopped my south american tank from thriving.
Some terrible pics! But it conveys the general idea and set up...

With a pH like that and a tank that size, what about a shellie tank with either Neolamprologus brevis (I think, may have to confirm if these "fit" in a 15g tank) or Neolamprologus multifasciatus?

I would love to do that :) I love their behavior in the videos I watch. Problem is, the only one I know I could get for sure (without ordering) is the brichardi cichlid. Does a shellie tank require much more work than a planted tank? Any special requirements or anything?

In general they are much easier... no plants to worry about, just shells and cichlids.

Right on. Sounds like my kind of tank. There is the matter of getting the fish here though, through ordering and whatnot. I'm getting a bit excited....

Brichardi wouldn't work, I looked at them for my 15g. Apparently they are agro and need quite large tanks.

I'm doing a 15g Shellie tank at the moment. I'm breaking the rules and going with Lamprologus occelatus, since it's the only shellie we can get in NZ due to our strict import laws. I implore you so look into multies and brevis though. I would go with them in a heartbeat if only they were available here -- much more suitable for a 15g. I've ordered my occies and they are due to arrive in 2 weeks.

Thanks for the link :) I'll update if anything happens.
Geeky question: Have you ever hiked the Lord of the Rings Trail? New Zealand is where LOTR was filmed and it's one of the only things I know about New Zealand....lol

Haha as far as I know there is no specific "trail" since it was filmed lots of different places around the country. I have been to Castle Hill quite a bit through, it's not far from where I live and some of LOTR was filmed there -- Rohan I think.

Wow, that must be very pretty! That movie sure chose a great setting :)
    Also, I don't know how much of a difference this makes, but it's a 15 gallon long, so the layout is 24" x 12" x 12".
