Will do, Hardy...I smoothed it out with a spatula, just to see what my average depth would be with one bag...I've heard of the sloping method towards the back from others here, what does it accomplish, exactly?

sloping toward the back will make the tank look a bit bigger and deeper front a front view. So it's a visual issue, nothing more

yea, just adds a little depth, nothing major, maybe 1/2 - 1" difference in front to back

Also, a paint brush works great for smoothing out substrate

I figured the sl0ping thing was "stadium seating f0r plants".
When in d0ubt read it until it makes sense, then read it again!

Thanks guys...I meant to take a pic of the rigs I have set up for soaking my driftwood...one long piece is in a kiddie pool in my shed, weighed down by bricks...the "stumpier" pieces are in a tote, with a Coke flat and then a cinder block to hold them under water...nothing fancy, but hey, they can't float!

Not only does it gives each plant a better view but it makes the tank a bit easier to clean because all the debris will fall to the lower part of the slant. The difficult part is keeping the slope when your fish are constantly flattening it out or in my case, digging holes.
When I go fishing I just place a sharp rock in the water and sit there waiting for all the dead fish to float to the top... Kingfisher
Brutal honesty will be shown on this screen.
I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.
Tolerance is a great thing to have, so is the ability to shut up.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

That makes sense, thanks HB1...which fish tend to stir up sand substrate the most?...or do most of them do it, once they figure out that they can?

Well, my fish are cichlids and they are digging pits for fry. I've heard corys will wreak havoc on a nice sand slope.
