another fix is simply putting the foot of a pair of panty hose over the send of the python and securing it with a rubber band. they can't get inside with it on there. After losing a serpae several months ago to the 'tube' I started using this method. It's been the perfect solution for me.

What amazes me about the rummys is that they fear NOTHING...I came dangerously close to sucking up a few of them during Saturday's PWC, little suckers where swimming right up to be Python tube, bumping it, trying to get at the bits that were being vacuumed up

The Colombians, who are more than twice the rummy's size, all hide under the DW during PWC's, LOL
I thought that might be the case, the one that was always near the top of the school or second fish down, you can see the wierd spot in the video. I didn't want to alarm you, that why I asked when the fish passed. It looks alot like the problem or friend had with his rummys awile back that was posted in another section?. Everything should be fine now. Glad your "stumpy's" doing fine, I'm sure his back fins will grow back in no time at all with the good care you give to your tank.

Thanks Kev...we kind of discussed those pumps before, but not in great detail, and I'm still not 100% certain how they work...how do you vac the substrate if all you are concerned with is removing water?

Yeah, about half the way through the PWC I shut off the valve on the Python to go outside and switch the buckets it's siphoning into, I use the old water for the flowerbeds...come back inside, and one of the rummys had swam up into the Python tube and was just chilling out in there!...i actually had to swish it around a bit to get him out!

How in the heck did you spot that?...now I gotta go back and look...I never even noticed it in the regular tank light!

I don't recall which other rummy problem someone else was having that you refer to (?)

See, I tried that before, with the 10 gallon...but the larger platy poop and debris (piece of plants, RCS shells, etc) ended up staying in the tank...then what do you do?

I see it as plain as day now!...how in the hell did I miss it when I first turned on the lights?...at least he didn't suffer too long, and I surely hope he wasn't contagious

Both videos are great. Those Colombians are huge! It looked like your chubby platy wanted to be one of them!!!

For PWCs, I attached craft mesh (using a cable tie pulled very tight) to the end of my vac hose and it works great. I can use it to both empty the tank and vac the sand.

Actually did not ask for any...when they showed up with no DOA's I let them know I was satisfied, and that was it...not going to push the issue, the fish had been in my tank for almost 2 days before he passed...do you think I should say something this late?

Thanks Laura!....I do have some green plastic mesh I have used before, it worked well...may have to start using it again if the rummys stay curious!
