We're open to anything right now, so tell me what you would put in it. We already have some livebearers and tetras in other tanks, so something different would be nice.
    15 gal: 1 butt-ton Malaysian trumpet snails.
20 gal: 20+ various molly and platy fry.
    55 gal: 40 neon tetras.
75 gal: 2 Taiwan reef cichlids, 3 pelmatochromis nigrofasciatus juveniles.

Honestly - a lot of water to wash out the dirt...

I would find a cleaner substrate but if stuck on a dirt tank, I would consider (assuming this is a 1ftx1ftx2ft) a single german blue ram, some microrasbora like chili's or phoenix.

Mr. Molly has his heart set on a dirted tank. He already has the dirt washed. We just need to plant it and move somebody in!

Apparently Mr. Molly changed his mind. He said he does want to use dirt for a planted tank, but not necessarily this one. So I guess any substrate is possible.

Also I think it's illegal to take the sand.

Black diamond grinding sand is an attractive sand. Play sand is fine as well. Flourite or Ecocomplete are expensive but similar and better for plants as they are like a mulch for the aquarium but are light and easily disturbed.

You could do a species tank of Scarlet Badis if you can find them.
