I like music with a lot of bass. Can this cause any problems.

This question has been asked here before, and if I remember correctly, there was a pretty good debate about the issue. I am inclined to think that alot of thumping, booming bass would stress fish, but that is my opinion only.

Agree, though you'd think that maybe the more "intelligent" fish like Oscars might grow to become accustomed to and perhaps learn to enjoy it? Interesting to think.

Music or other loud sounds will cause the tank and the water in it to vibrate, and the fish will feel these vibrations. Depending on how loud it is and how close to the tank the source is, it may very well stress them out. I have a couple tanks near TVs and it doesn't seem to bother them, but the TV speakers are not pointed AT the tanks and we don't usually have it up all that loudly. I have seen people post about having tanks near loud stereos or maybe a drum set or something and those fish definitely were stressed by it.

My advice would be to play your music and observe your fish. If they're suddenly skittish, hiding, schooling, losing color, or showing other signs of stress, then it's a good bet that your music is having a harmful effect on them.

I tried exactly that. I played the piano beside the fish tank and the bolivian rams and white cloud mountain minnows and cories started schooling and swimming up and down the glass. I played classical music. it was a piano and i don't consider myself that bad of a musician nor do i consider the cories and minnows smart enough to discern good from bad. Overall i think it was a stress response. Maybe they thought the vibrations were an upcoming earthquake.

Yes, Extended exposure to loud noises has detrimental effects to your hearing...

Putting that issue aside, Buy some quality headphones so at least it won't bother/stress the fish...
    Gas mileage isn't everything OIIIIIIIO
Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.
Why pretend there are no stupid questions? Actually, There are many stupid questions: "Should I drink this bleach?" Is just one example.
Having said that, Just because it's a stupid question doesn't mean that it shouldn't be asked. It's better to know.

A warm beer is better than a cold beer. Because nothing is better than a cold beer, and a warm beer is better than nothing.
