Ick and live rock question
I had a blue tang that had battled HLLE for several months. A couple of weeks ago I came home from work and it was covered with ick. I removed it and tried to treat but the fish didn't survive. The rest of the tanks inhabitants are healthy and everything looks great now but next week I am going to start setting up my new 125. I wanted to use my existing live rock in the new set up but now I am worried about introducing ick to the new system. I had a feeling that it may be present in my existing system because when I first started it up I didn't know about quarantining and introduced fish directly from the store, however, this was the first time I had a fish show symptoms. What are your feelings on transferring live rock from an established system to a new build?

I would not risk moving the fish or rocks into your new tank unless you would first recure the rock for 3 months and place your fish in qt and give them a preventative treatment of copper meds. I would guess the rest of your fish are infected but managing to fight off the ich. You have to keep in mind a fish can be infect with ich but not show the typical symptoms or white spots.

I agree with Cliff and only add you really need to treat the tank no matter what. It doesn't go away on its own...Life is tough, it's even tougher if you're stupid (John Wayne)
