  1. Default Dealing with hole in the head

Hi all, my german blue ram is suffering from what I believe to be hole in the head. I can't get a good picture but it looks very very similar to the pictures in the first post of this thread http://www.tropicalfishkeeping.com/t...ad-argh-66313/.

I just noticed this yesterday and decided to use Metro+ today. Yesterday was my normal 50% W/C and today I'm setting up a 75% W/C. My questions are what could have caused this as my water quality is always good to very good and when doing daily water changes should I re dose Metro+ and if so how much should I re dose? I think it was stress caused my lights being on long periods of time (my timer was out for a few weeks before I could replace it and had a hard time remembering to turn the lights out when I was still up) and possible poor nutrition. My feeding schedule is kens tropical fish flakes base and a few nls cichlids pellets then a few times a week frozen brine shrimp and then maybe once a week or two freeze dried blood worms. I've read that veggies are good but I can't seem to get him to eat the cuc that I have in the tank for my BN.

My plan is to do 75% water changes daily for a week and dose metro+ and see what happens. If anyone has any other suggestions on top of answers to my questions above would be very much appreciated. Thanks everyone

Sorry about your fish. Hope you can get on top of it.
Can you Quarantine the fish? I know rams are touchy so that's a tough call.
Not knowing exactly what you're dealing with, I agree you need to do lots of water changes. It also can't hurt to dose with metro+ as it contains an antibiotic that may help. Also agree that when you do your W/C, you need to replace the metro+ equivalent what you would dose the amount of water you removed from the tank.
It doesn't sound to me like his diet is lacking.
    Good luck!

Thanks fishmommie! I don't want to move the ram to prevent stress from the move. I think your right about re dosing the metro and I'll stick with the plan of doing water changes and re dosing for a week. Next week I have to be away from the tank for 4 days so I hope things improve this week or I'll be worried my whole time away...

Metro + is pretty gentle. It shouldn't hurt any other fish in the tank. Next week I have to be away from the tank for 4 days so I hope things improve this week or I'll be worried my whole time away...
I hope they improve too. It could be he had a sore or two and the scabs came off and that's what's left. the metro should help heal it and ward off any infection. Again, good luck.

Thats what I hope the cause is. He is still eating and acting normal so that's a good sign. He sat still long enough for me to get a good look and I didn't see any characteristic pin size holes so I hope that it is just a scab like fishmommie suggested.
