  1. Default My (not so little) apple snail :)

    Hi everyone
First time on here. I got my little apple snail about 6 weeks ago and he has doubled in size already, I am mostly just concerned about the effect this level of growth will have on his shell. It's quite bumpy and I noticed a patch on him that looks slightly broken or dented? He is perfectly active and hungry and seems otherwise healthy although I have noticed that when he finds himself on the plants he will let go and float back to the gravel so am wondering if he may have landed wrong? I have attached a picture of him so you can see what I am talking about. He lives with my betta and five pentazoa and none of them pay him much attention. He eats everything going and strips spinach right down to the stalk. I am concerned that he may not be getting enough calcium so how much should I feed him in a week?

    Thanks in advance :)

Try some of the calcium rich foods in the below thread

If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

something else that will help is to put a piece of cuttle fish bone in the tank.(You'll find it in the bird section of your pet store) the bone will leach calcium even if he doesn't glom on to it. My apple snails are quite large and all have either cracks or ruts in their shells. they will grow new shell to cover it but it won't be as smooth or pretty as the original shell.
