It's been awhile, but if im remembering it correctly, a golden jack dempsey is a strain that is used in the breeding of the ebjd's in some way. Something like a golden plus a golden equals a fish that carries the blue gene, or something weird like that. I could easily be very wrong, I just think I remember reading something like that lol.

Yes golden JD's do exist and the carry leucistic genes. It's the same way you get pink convicts and lutino oscars. You don't use a golden JD to make a EBJD unless you know it carries the blue gene.

The only way to know if you have a JD carries the blue gene is if one of the parents are EBJD.

A quick browse of the web reveals that it is a color morph of the regular jack dempsey. Something along the lines of a lutino . Did notice that Jeff Rapps was selling them at one point (and might still be but didn't check his site). So from what I can see they are legit. Don't know anything more than that though.

Not attempting to ruffle feathers or anything - but I don't understand the appeal of fish whose colour has been bred out of them. It's just like another albino morph.

I don't agree with color morphing in general, especially a naturally colored fish is beautiful to begin with.
When in doubt, do a water change.

I agree, but to each his own. There are always going to be folks who think that sort of thing is just the coolest thing ever. My ex wife thought albino oscars were the neatest thing since sliced bread. I think they are ugly. Like I sad though , to each his own.
