Thank you! Any ideas to what kind of Pleco that is? I asked the guy for a BN Pleco for $5.99, but I didn't watch him bag it and when I got home I thought it looked a little more exotic than the regular BNs I have seen.

Hello again journal! It has been too long since I posted about my tank, I'm sorry! So a lot has changed since I was here last. I have had to buy more plants and figure out which ones will survive in my tank. I completely underestimated how much CO2 is a necessity for jungle tanks. I gave up on liquid co2, so I am just running High light and low light plants for now and it has held up nicely. I also swapped out a few of my Australian Rainbows for some Bosemanis and some other cool type I forgot the name. So the stock list looks like...

    5 x Harleys
    7 x Rainbows (2- Australian, 2- Turquoise, 2- Bosemani, 1- Cool gray/blueish one)
    8 x Rummy Nose Tetras
    2 x Emerald Cory Cats
    1 x Oto
    1 x BN Pleco
    2 x SAE's
    1 x Clown Loach (4 inch)

I know my stock is max, but remember I have 100g worth of filtration on a heavily planted tank so the water is pristine. Water changes weekly and I test it every two weeks. When the loach grows two more inches I will be selling him to a friend. At that time I would like to add 2 x Panda Corys or maybe sell the two emerald I have and get 4x Pandas.

Tonight, I should be receiving my NEW EHEIM 2215 Canister Filter I ordered on Amazon.com. I'm going to add it to the 55g and after a week or two, I will remove the HOB's I have on there. I just got tired of the turbulence my HOB's are causing and I think the canister will be much better for my plants. I am very excited. I also got some new fish foods to try out. New Life Spectrum w/garlic, Hakari Bottom feeder food and some Shrimp Granules!

My 20g planted tank is doing good too! I lost a cpl more cardinals (ich I think) so I'm down to five. It was strange, one fish would be covered in Ich and the others where unfazed. My Cherry Shrimp colony has exploded!! There are probably 150 shrimp in there now and growing. I occasionally will take few out for the 55g or 5g Betta tank. I hope this shrimp food will make them happy and bright! I also bought a few fancy guppies and neons at petsmart because they were a $1. Of course, half of them didn't survive the trip/first night being from Petsmart :(.

I will upload pictures tomorrow after I hook up the new filter! I hope to be better about updates and changes I make, so check back soon! Any advice, compliments or criticism is welcomed!!! Fish on people!

I'd get rid of the loach - he's WAY too big for your tank and he prefers being with his own kind. he's got to be lonesome all by himself. Then I'd up the corys (all the same species -at least 6) and add more harleys

I'd leave the HOB on for at least a month until the new canister has a chance to develop a bb colony. Another option would be to move the bio media from the hob to the canister so it would be instantly cycled

My 20g planted tank is doing good too! I lost a cpl more cardinals (ich I think) so I'm down to five. It was strange, one fish would be covered in Ich and the others where unfazed.
I promise you, if one fish has ich, they ALL have ich. Ich generally starts in the gills where you can't see it then spreads to the fins and body. I'd heat treat the entire tank to make certain you're rid of it.

I will upload pictures tomorrow after I hook up the new filter! I hope to be better about updates and changes I make, so check back soon! Any advice, compliments or criticism is welcomed!!! Fish on people!
the 55 is beautiful but you really do need to get that loach out of there and up your cory and harely schools. you'll have much happier fish.

You obviously have superb aquascaping skills - this is a lovely, balanced looking set-up. Very nice indeed.

Regarding your baby tears - these are really high maintenance plants and may be difficult for you to grow without CO2 injection. I've never managed it. One plant which has done extremely well in my set up (no CO2), and it carpets if you keep it trimmed down enough - is stargrass (Heteranthera zosterifolia). It's certainly not a traditional carpeting plant but thought I'd mention it as an option as it's a lovely looking plant and easy to manage.

Otos shouldn't be kept by themselves. They are very social.

I'd lose the SAEs - they are a real pain when they reach adulthood.
