I understand that the odds of being attacked by a shark while swimming are remote but I'll take my chances with the black bears while camping instead. Being attacked by a shark scares the cr@p out of me.

"We knew there were risks of a shark attack but I thought this would occur in a deeper sector," the victim's cousin, Daniele Souza, told Globo television.

Whenever you step in the water, you risk getting attacked by an aggressive and/or predatory fish. And as the show River Monsters is evidence of, it's not just the ocean waters you have to be careful in.

That said... Shark attacks are so rare that I myself wouldn't worry. If you take a helicopter over Hawaiian beaches, for instance, you see large sharks swimming amongst many humans out playing, and there's rarely an attack.

I'll take my chances with large pike, catfish, muskies or snapping turtles. At least I'll heal without loosing a limb. Being pulled overboard and drowned doesn't happen with normal tackle and using a long line is illegal up here.
Now a 12 foot shark sawing my arm or leg off because it thinks I'm a seal really bites.
Speaking of sharks, SHARK WEEK IS ABOUT TO START. I really laughed at their seal commercial. What a shocker.

In 1932 a bull shark bit swimmers 1100+ miles up river in the mississippi river, and there have been shark bites in a river in New Jersey- als0 a bull shark. (Sandz, n0tice I didn't say "attacked" ;P). Them buggers will get ya in a bathtub, it seems, if they c0uld swim up the drain.

Haha Longshot man, you kill me.

Bull Sharks breed and lay their spawn in fresh water and grow to about 4ft until they return to the sea.

Bull sharks are fascinating and terrifying at the same time, It is pr0bably the 0nly shark I w0uld fear n0 matter h0w much I understand them. I swim in p00ls, streams and stream fed p0nds- I d0n't d0 the 0cean 0r rivers. When I g0 in the 0cean it is usually 0nly up t0 my knees where the little 0nes can 0nly git me!

Wasnt it some stat that 75% of all attacks occur in less than 3ft of water?
