Default Sudden decline in young betta!

So, last night after I fed him and did his water change, my "baby" betta looked totally normal, swimming around in the tank. When I woke up this morning to feed my cats, I went to check on him, and he was pale, sluggish, and not really interested in food (this being a fish that every day since I brought him home, was absolutely eager to be fed).

He's in a heated 2 gallon QT tank while I set up his home. Now, the heater is just one of those raise-5 degrees kinds since it's summer and during the day it's warm enough to not need one, but I do have a better heater in the mail to put in the tank. I've been keeping his tank about 80-84 degrees.

About to go test the amm/NO2/NO3, though there's fresh Prime from last night's water change to detoxify amm/NO2. Because he's so young, he gets daily 50% water changes. And yes, I dechlorinate the water and match temps, so as not to shock him.

I don't know what to do!

ETA: I just went in to check his water parameters, and he was looking/acting completely normal. ARGH.

Okay, even though he was back to looking/acting normal, I still ran tests on his water.

    pH 8.0
    Ammonia .25ppm
    NO2 0ppm
    NO3 10ppm

All match my tap water, so there's nothing wildly off about them. :/

You never want ammonia, if it is anything other than 0, do water changes with conditioner until it is 0

It is IMPOSSIBLE to get to 0 out of my tap. My tap has chloramines, which keep the ammonia reading at .25-.5ppm. Because I'm doing daily water changes, there is plenty of Prime in the water to detoxify the ammonia and turn it into ammonium.

I'm glad to hear your baby is doing better...sometimes they just act weird. Mine do it from time to time, little buggers. But every animal will have off days. Do you have some frozen brine shrimp (or better yet live ones) that you could give to him for a day? I think it helps with constipation, and perhaps would help ward off bellyaches (I assume they feel pain kind of like we do). I have heard once a week is good for a brine shrimp meal.

And GO YOU for the frequent water changes. Those are going to do wonders for your fish's growth and health. So much clean water really helps keep disease at bay...I felt kind of like a psycho changing the water every day when my bettas were babies, but it was worth it.

My advice: slow down, think, and be willing to learn. Then you'll be fine, no matter what.

Oh yes, he got brine shrimp for his last two feedings yesterday, and his first today. :) I'm trying to give brine shrimp twice a week, and bloodworms once. (Boyfish gets them for one meal, babyfish gets them over two or three meals).

And today he's started coloring up! :D Not full adult colors, but definitely not mostly the stripey fry look. :D I also rearranged his tank yesterday, including a few potted plants... And I used Eco Complete for most of the pots, and that has started his tank cycling. *sigh* So I'm fussing with nitrites in his tank at the moment. Second WC today! Though it was only about .1ppm. Still better safe than sorry.
