Actually the 15 watt would yield low-lower medium lighting as previously indicated. This is due to the fact that it takes a certain amount of wattage to really do any good growing plants. If you went by watts per gallon then you could have 4 watts of standard illumination on the tank and grow low light plants when really you could barely see into it because it would be so dark. Watts per gallon is really outdated and honestly only applies to larger standard size tanks with T8/T12 lighting. Otherwise it is a totally useless guideline.

Alright. Then what wattage should I am for? I have a fixture that can hold up to 75 watts that I can use. It still has to be a screw-in bulb though. Any recommendations?

15watts is fine, much over and youll need to inject CO2.

I don't mind adding CO2. I won't be able to get a fancy system though. Does liquid CO2 work well? I really have my sights set on a high light tank with dwarf baby tears. I want that plant so badly.

I haven't kept bettas before but I know most on here would say a 5 gallon is the smallest tank they should be kept in. I just can't see anything but shrimp being content in a 2.5 gallon bowl. Good luck! I've been thinking about doing the same thing for awhile now.

Well its not a bowl, per say. Its an actual rectangular tank. Its more on the end of 3 gallons to be quite honest. Idk though I most likely will stick with shrimp. But I might try a type of mirco-rasbora. If they don't do well I can simply move them. I have spare tanks.

High light...try 25 watts. I ran a 2.5G with 25 watts and it grew HC very well. Liquid injection is not as good as yeast or pressurized injection. It is better than nothing but injection is best. You could setup a DIY yeast system out of some soda bottles which would work well for the tank. I would honestly use 2 reaction chambers for stability and offset them 1 week apart and just change one out each week to keep a consistent stable dosage of CO2 going into the tank.

Alright I'll research CO2 more and see what I want to do. I've never used it and I don't want to mess up and do something stupid. Thanks for the wattage, bit do you have any recommendations for bulbs, must be screw in bulbs

I haven't used them but I've herd that normal cfl bulbs work well for small tanks such as yours. Not sure on wattage or anything else but they are cheap.

Normal household CFLs in a "daylight" spectrum work fine, most commonly found in 15 or 25 wattage.
