    Hi all,

I'm a long time lurker on this site, you seem to have the answers to everything I google! Finally thought it best to join the party as I just got a 200L tank that's going to be a tropical community and my Mum is BEGGING me to get discus... Is there any way to do this successfully? Specifically, it's a bonded adult pair of discus that keep spawning in the shop where I work, one is a super red map and the other a turquoise, they are beautiful!

    Love muchly,
    Eika

200 liters is not big. What are the dimensions? Do you have a big, well matured filter?

Dimensions are 92L x 55H x 41W, and the filter is a Juwel one, I'm not sure what model but it's quite big and has about 6 different sponges in it. I haven't actually set the tank up yet, so it's not cycled or anything but I'm happy to wait as long as it needs. 200L is pushing it I know, but if it had nothing else but dither fish do you think it's do-able?

    And thanks Gadget :)

    Edit: Dimensions are in cm

That's a juwel lido? I think it's too small. Don't think I'd want to try this in anything smaller than a Rio 240.

Welcome to the AC! Sorry but your tank really is to small for discus. A 3ft 50g really just doesn't have the footprint. I wouldn't keep them in anything less than a 4ft 75g. They are a very sensitive fish and need constantly clean consistent water conditions. Unless you're prepared to do large water changes every few days (every single day if you want them to spawn), I would go in another direction.

There are many really nice looking fish you can keep in that size tank though. You have a good depth on that tank, maybe go with a couple severums? They have a discus like look with allot less work and better personality imo. http://i371.photobucket.com/albums/o..._071709_07.jpg

Welcome to the forum. Unfortunately discus are pretty much the opposite of beginner fish, as well as being quite big for the tank you have. I'd recommend starting out with something easier and with experience return to the challenge of discus.

    Welcome to the forum

You might get more response to your question if you post your question in the correct section of the forum.
If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.
