    Hi
I have just won an aquarium on ebay and will be collecting it this weekend. It's 230 ltr jewel flat backed hex ( 49, I love ebay) with its cabinet.
Now I need to work out appropriate filtration, heating, air and maybe lighting.

So, I was looking at Eden 501 External Filter 300LPH, for filtration, would two cut it and would it be ok to start a fish-less cycle with one and introduce the 2nd later on (need to co-ordinate against pay days). What sort of wattage will I need for heating? What a bout air pumps/stones?

Planning on a planted tank once I've checked for leaks.

Any help and advice much appreciated

    Harry

I would go with a 200 watt heater, and those filters are a bit to small... I would want a 200 us gallon per hour minimum on this tank. Thats 800 total liters (give or take, my math isnt with me right now). Air pumps arent that big of a concern but the stocking will be... 60 gallon hex does have some floor space but its not like a 65 gallon long tank.
    FW: 1 45gal, 1 40gal, 3 10gal, 3 30gal all community tanks of different species
    Sw: 1 55gal, 1 30gal show, 1 29gal show, 1 20gal and 2 10's

600 Lph should be fine and you can start cycling with one, 250 or 300 watt heater. Air pumps are only for effect, they add nothing much.

Do consider that it's floorspace is limited and that it's an old tank, I think they stopped making these in 2005 or earlier so check everything.

    Hi
Have bought a "Juwel Aquarium Automatic Heater 200 watt" as the flat is fairly warm and an "All Pond Solutions External Filter 1000EF", 4x turnover should be sufficient then right?

Next step aquascaping, need to buy substrate.
