Question Cardinal Shrimp - Caridina sp. "Cardinal"

I'm doing a bit of research for my future breeding set up and I came across these Cardinal Shrimp, they do great in high ph up to 8.5 and can live as long as 3 years. I'm looking for anyone who has kept any,or has experience with them, and if you can tell me your experience with them that would be great, thanks.

On average I'm seeing the different Sulawesi shrimps going for $12-18..each.. so they're pretty pricey.

I was up all night reading about the various types of Sulawesi shrimps and apparently my water parameters are perfect for them, bar conductivity and tds, I don't have meters for those.

This guide is a great start for anyone interested in keeping them:

I particularly like the fact they need to be in the same high temperatures as Discus!

Few people in my country are breeding them now. General opinion is that these are picky with water values. You got little room for error with Ph and hardness. Additionally these require chemically very pure water. No meds, no metals! Many people here would probably need to use at least HMA water and possibly buffered RO water. Get it right and you got absolutely stunning shrimp that should even breed.

I agree, unfortunately there's an all too common trend in this hobby that a lot of the really awesome fish/inverts happen to be picky/hard to maintain.

Take for example a great white shark, I'll just love to have one in my 50000 gallon tank, but they just don't survive in captivity you know?

Hmm I'm thinking before I go ahead and make the considerable investment in purchasing them and importing them I might as well spend the extra cash and purchase a conductivity & tds meters. If all checks out and they do eventually breed, If you guys are ever in the area you are welcome to grab a couple

Very nice looking fresh water shrimp! It may just be more economic to set up a salt water tank and raise Blood shrimp. :)
Warning; Bulldog Pleco guarding my Sons tank now..

Please remember; every keystroke has a consequence.
