Default Hello From a New Member

Long time lurker; there is a treasure trove of information in these forums!

    A bit about my tank:
    30 gallon cycled tank
    0 nitrite/nitrate/ammonia/chlorine
    ph 7
extremely hard water (off the charts of test strip)
    79 degrees F
    56 watts of T5
    some visible algae
heavy vegetation (all sorts of stuff I don't know the name of. Mostly stem plants, a few rooted ones).
    deep gravel substrate
no airstone; raised top-mounted filter for 9" deep splash
weekly 10-20% water changes + liquid plant fert

    In the tank 1 year:
6 cardinal tetras; super bright, have gotten so much bigger over the last year
3 neon tetras; school with cardinals
5 espei rasboras; awesome for cycling
3 german blue rams; 2 males who always spar for the attention of the female
    2 assassin snails
2 guppies that make babies all the time.
2 cherry shrimp; seeing them go from small and translucent to big and blood red has been awesome

    <1 year:
3 otocinclus catfish; maybe not the wisest purchase (see RIP)
    2 peppered cory cats
2 neon blue dwarf gouramis; i've never seen them fight, look great with the cardinals
    1 grown loricaria catfish
    1 grown siamese algae eater

    RIP (in chronological order)
1 pleco; got stuck in an ornament, which has since been removed. this one me hit hard.
    1 neon tetra; cause unknown.
2 otocinclus catfish; within days of purchase. see my first post if interested.

The SAE and Catfish were impulse buys by my 12 year old sister while I was at university. I am hoping to trade them for 1-2 more cory cats and gouramis in the near future, as they feel a bit large for the tank (esp the SAE).
