Thread: My update

As you know, last month I decided to get rid of my 55 gallon tanks and get out of the hobby pretty much except for the 29 gallon. I have listed the tanks on Craigslist + 3 other sites + my local newspaper and my only "bite" come last night via Craigslist from a guy who offered me $50!!!!!!! Really? $50 for a 55 gallon, stand, canister filter and an Aqua Clear filter, all the gravel and a heater?
With most of the other tanks on Craigslist listed at $300, I thought for sure these would go quickly for $140. Wrong!
I am very close to filling them back up and throwing some fish in them!!!!!!
I also was not able to sell the plants, any of the equipment or even the unopened bags of food and test kits I just bought. I think this is an indication that I should not become a real estate agent.

I think that just might be a sign,,,,, If you can put up the 2 hour drive to you closest LFS
Or maybe try to sell again during a different time of the year when people or more focused on "in-door" hobbies.
Sorry to hear you were not able to sellIf you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

I have to agree with Cliff in that Summer is just a major slow down in terms of indoor hobbies. Folks look for things to do in Winter so its no surprise to me. You, Cliff and I live in areas where winters are brutal so we spend more time indoors then. I'm almost never home, so much to do in summer with my family, like medieval festival 1 hour away today...Jousting, trebuchet and bad food.Life is tough, it's even tougher if you're stupid (John Wayne)

I also have to agree with the timing of your sale. Sept would be a better time frame imo as things are winding down and life gets back into a routine.
I'm also sorry to hear your reducing your tanks and stock. I missed that thread.

Lol Lady Hobbs, the same thing happened to me a couple years ago. I decided it was time to get out of the fish keeping hobby and put my tanks on Craigslist, the ad was up for a month and I only got a couple ridiculous offers. At the end of a month I thought, "what was I thinking... ", and upgraded my 20g to a 65g and never looked back.People say if you can't say something nice then don't say anything at all... Then they wonder why am I so quiet.
Everything happens for a reason. Sometimes that reason is you are stupid and make bad decisions.
I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.
A moderator on a fish forum should be able to identify an oscar... Don't you think?

Michigan huh? I wonder how much it'd cost to have it shipped here. I'd buy it.

lol not so easy to downsize or get out of this hobby. Hopefully you can hang on to them for a few more months. You might try a few old fashioned paper ads at your local grocery store and wherever has a board...
Maybe try selling the equipment and turn a tank into a planter...?
or maybe someone is reading your ad right now and is about to get in touch...
hope you have some better luck!

Sorry that they're not selling...but I'd agree with the others...hang on to them until October. Once kids are settled in school and things slow down again...people are more likely to be looking towards indoor hobbies again...55 g Goldfish Tank - 2 Fancies, 2 Comets
