Default The Netherlands - Goby attack!

Recently some fishermen have discovered that there were some strange fish in the water, fish that originally don't live here and were rising in numbers.
Turns out there are three species of exotic gobies that don't belong here, and usually when there are exotics people assume that they were set out but it turns out that these fish have been swimming all the way from eastern europe, to our small country!
These relatively small fish are quite aggressive and will strike at food faster than the usual fish that live here, thus forming a potential threat to the native fish in this country though there can't be much done about them since they are coming here on their own and i large numbers.
Here's a picture of the little devils.

This is the round goby, aka Neogobius melanostomus http://www.fishbase.org/summary/12019 a freshwater species that has used the fact that the Rhine–Main–Danube Canal allows for a freshwater connection between the far east of Europe and the far west. This particular species is indeed doing very well in some of our bigger lakes.

They have also invaded The Great Lakes here, released in discharges of bilge water from ships.

I've caught a few of those here in streams near Lake Erie, and yes, invasive and definitely causing issues. They also feast on the eggs of native species of fish.

populations have dropped in the Great Lakes to my knowledge in recent years because our native fish learned to feast on the small gobies, but they are still plentiful. always kill if you catch one. they breed multiple times a year and feast on native fish eggs. extremely invasive.
