Question I was a really strange question concerning fish water and carpet....

Hope I'm not abusing this site too much! I just find everyone so helpful and I'm so new to tropical tanks.

So I did something a little dumb yesterday. I was doing a water change and stopped paying attention for like 2 seconds. My bucket overflowed on to my carpet in my room. I used a ton of towels to get it out of the carpet and left my window open since it was nice and hot. My carpet is dry now but floor smells pretty bad. Yaaaay poopy fish water.

Anyone else have this type of problem? If so, how did you get the smell out of your carpet?

And I've learned my lesson. No taking eyes off of the bucket!

Told you it was a strange question.......

I'm laughing with you... I've over filled buckets in the past and once I forgot to remove the stopper from my sink while siphoning 50% of the water in my 45 gallon . Luckily I have laminate & tile so no fish poop aroma..... have you tried pet deodorizer?

I just realized my title says "I was a really strange question." How does that make sense? lol

I haven't tried a pet deodorizer yet. Wasn't certain if that would work since it's in the carpet. Probably under the carpet too.

Side note, you 135 gallon tank frightens me. But it's still pretty cool. :) Unfortunately I wasn't able to keep the attention span/patience to read all 91 pages haha did you end up getting more Bolivian Rams?

Lol, we get "off topic" quite often in my journal so it makes for some entertaining reading. I just actually finished my fishless cycle yesterday so if all goes well I'll be ordering this week. Will hold off on the Rams for a while though til all is settled.

Awesome! I was just curious how many you were thinking of putting in there. I have read so many mixed reviews on how many to keep. but with a tank that huge I imagine you could put quite a few in there and they'd be happy with their own territories.

This is for your 56 gal? If you don't want to have to use buckets, get a storage container from Walmart big enough to hold the old tank water and a Hydor Utility pump (about $25). Siphon the water into the container, then pump it down your drain. No lifting buckets.

    I didn't think YOU were a really strange question.....LOL!

Just sprinkle it over the spot then after 20 minutes vaccuum.. at least that's what I'd do :)

I was originally thinking 5, but will most likely hold off on them now that I've decided on Discus. Or i'll start another tank :D

Obviously this won't fix your carpet problem, but have you considered getting a python system that attaches straight to your tap? We had one for our 100g, don't know how we could have managed without one.

Hardy nailed the capet issue with baking soda. Also standard febreeze or a carpet shampoo OR an all natural pet odor spray works. *I will update with a brand 2moro once I have reviewed it from home.*
