Quick Help on Sponge filter
Hi, I'm looking into sponge filters and I have fouund a few that look like this http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Aquarium-Bioc...UI!~~60_12.JPG
They are cheap, but the problem is, I can't really wrap my head around how it works. I can see where you could put airline tubing in, and that makes sense, but what about the opening at tthe top where it looks as if you can fit say, a whole airstone in? What is that opening for?

Thats where the air comes out of. Air going up the tube (the clear part in the middle) creates a current which will pull in water through the sponges. Don't know why there is an elbow at the top...Who is "General Failure" and why is he reading my hard drive?

The elbow may have been what confused me, then. All the others I had seen don't have that or the airline input. Thanks a lot, now it makes more sense!

Can i bump this thread? i want to get some feedback on how many gallons this filter could support. I know this filter will be small. The water inlet is apparently 18 mm, to put it in scale. http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Aquarium-Bioc...UI!~~60_12.JPG

Sure you can bump a thread - it's actually nicer when people bump their own to continue things if something new pops up : ) - here is the link to what you are asking about:
it says at the bottom that it is meant for no larger than a 10gal tank.
