Thread: Soil

  1. Default Soil

    Hey all,
Is it possible to use normal soil form the garden underneath the gravel so as to sustain a healthy and thriving plant population. If so, would i boil it or would that take out the nutrients.
The gravel that i would like to use on top of the soil is about 2 mm in diameter and is not very sharp\
    Thx

It's possible if it's artificial fertizilier and pesticide free. I would advice you to use a very thin layer.

Just beware - the soil sometimes has an off smell and creates mud really easy even when capped. I would suggest some ada or flourite.

I've heard miracle stories about using earth as a substrate, but You need to be careful and diligent with the type of earth and its placement or else you might get a messy algae infested tank. Aquascaping will also be pretty challenging because of all the silt that is stirred up.
