    Default Possible Aquarium Lighting

    0 Not allowed!
I know some people are using clip on lights with cfl bulbs...

    But I found http://www.globalindustrial.com/p/to...FZBcMgoduzgADg

For $6 it has a decent reflector and I think would work decent. Any thoughts on possible drawbacks to using something like this on a tank rack?

Also, if I wanted to do something like this over my tanks do you think you could still use a glass lid?

Used CFL for a while, it works great but the CFL's do change color pretty rapidly. So not the best for plants.

If your glass lid has room for it, yeah it will fit. Most of them have some space for filters and the such so you should have the room you need to attach it.

I'm a cheapskate personally and finally just settled with using shop lights for all my tanks.

I use one of those on my 29 gallon. Walmart also has a desk clamp light that looks rather neat, too. Black.

see everything I have seen is that eventually the shop light ends up costing more between pricier bulbs and using up more electricity.

Ideally I'd just want to wire in some LED's but I have ZERO experience with that and would probably mess something up.

The rack i am think wouldn't need the clamp attached to the tank either, it would be attached to the shelf above it

I also deal in many more tanks than the average bear, so shoplights make sense in my case.

LED's, if you have the money, will work fine and really aren't hard to wire up from what I have read if you have some basic understanding of how electricity works and can follow directions. Just the initial cost is fairly steep.

6 shoplights would easily light that. Make them T8's and you are set. Can run them with 1 bulb each if you are that concerned with power usage. Home depot you can get 1 shoplight for $15. Used at craigslist or a thriftstore for cheaper. This place- http://www.habitatbuffalo.org/restore/shop-the-restore/ has never failed to dissapoint. We have two locally and between them I have gotten some amazing lighting.

Yes LED's are a bit on the expensive side but they hold the spectrum longer, use less electricity, and the programmers out now are awesome. LED's for me all the way.

LH, would you be able to post a photo of your 29 with that light? I need lighting for my dual 29s and don't want to spend a fortune on 30 inch LEDs. Thx.

Wanna tell me a good set up lol?

As for the t8s most of the breeder tanks will just have anubius and java fern. But the two 40g shows will probably need a bit more. I always get the t8,t5,t12 stuff mixed up. I have a t12 4' long light sitting in my shed that came with the 75 I may mess with
