Got my NLS Thera+A small fish pellets on Monday. Fed them to the 75 gal and the black neons in the QT. Pellets disappeared very quickly, enjoyed by all. Even my scissortails, who are surface feeders, were devouring them as they were sinking.

My diamonds are tricky to feed. On feeding day, I turn on the lights (set to sunrise/sunset, a soft pink/orange color) and leave them on for 30 minutes before feeding. As soon as the light goes on, my 75 gal kids are ready to eat, active and swimming around, waiting for the food to appear. The diamonds hide behind the rocks. When I feed, they hide behind the rocks, the food lands on the sand and stays there (mine don't surface feed). I'm never sure if they ate the food or Mr. Pleco. Seriouslyfish says they are easy to feed, eat anything you give them - not my kids! Tonight I will try the NLS pellets again and watch what happens. This weekend I will transfer Mr. Pleco to the 75 gal, removing the rocks in the process. I will not put all the rocks back in, maybe half, so there are a few less hiding places for the diamonds.

Question DIY intake tube for Rena canister

    1 Not allowed!
In the diamond tetra tank, because of the tall grasses in the corner, I don't think I am getting a proper draw into the intake tube (it is hidden behind the grasses in the right back corner). I am considering a PVC DIY intake tube with small holes drilled along it's length, attached to the back glass on an angle -

    DIY intake tube.pdf

I'm trying to draw water from a larger area. I am also going to remove some of the rocks, as the diamonds use them to hide behind and aren't seeing the food as it enters the tank. I can move the grasses a little more forward (there is about a 2" space behind them now) to allow for better circulation.

Opinions? Will this work or am I way off base?

Looks easy enough to make, I think I would give it a shot...PVC is cheap and easy to work with, you can modify if needed without much expense or effort

You've done good work in the past with using pvc for your plant bases. I agree with Slap, give it a shot. You won't know until you try. Good luck with the new project, catching Mr. Pleco and getting the diamonds to eat. :)

Did a total re-do of the left side of the diamonds tank. The crotons are gone (they will also be gone from the right tank tomorrow),as the leaves were detaching from the stems (obviously not meant to hold up in water).

Stopped at Michael's and purchased some really cool tall, thin green leaf plants with little plantlets on stems (I think green spider plants). They look very cool and I like them much better than the crotons. I also removed most of the stones and the diamonds are MUCH happier with the added space. They are swimming in and out of the new plants (didn't go near the crotons) and this morning they ate all the spirulina brine shrimp off the sand. They even ate the spirulina flakes floating around after I turned on the filter. I have been having a tough time feeding them, so I was very happy when they ate all their breakfast!

I will take a video and some photos after I re-do the right tank. It's very close to being cycled, .25 ammonia and 0 nitrites 24 hrs after dosing 2.4 ml.

I agree. I was very concerned that they were hiding a lot and they actually seemed intimidated by the food as it sunk or moved around the tank after the filter was turned on. They were so outgoing when I first got them and those are the fish I saw this morning.
