With the center braces added - if using a canister filter that will sit on the floor, make sure there is enough width between the braces for the filter

This is the time to place the stand where the tank will reside and level the top rectangle. You attach the top rectangle the same way as the bottom one. It is easier with 2 people. You want the top to be about 1/4 inch above the top of the 36 inch legs, so the tank rests only on the rectangle.

After the top is secured add the 2 center braces (sorry for the dark photo)

The rectangle that the stand is resting on is only held up by screws, ideally you would want a 2x6 post between the two rectangle frames to transfer a wood to wood load.

I don't think its needed in this case, but just for the future... also, why 2x6? 2x4s would have been plenty, but I really can't say anything since I'm the king of overkill lol
You are correct - stand is not complete yet. My floor was not level, so I had to partially assemble, then measure for the front and side 2x4 supports to go between the rectangles (they are 8 different lengths). I will be cutting and attaching them tonight.

Added additional screws to the front and sides.

Now is the time to measure for the front and side 2x4 supports that attach to the 36 inch support legs at the 4 corners of the stand. You wait to cut these 8 pieces until the stand is leveled. Because my floor was not level, I actually have 8 different lengths to cut. I will be doing this tonight. You can see the supports, which go between the top and bottom rectangles in this photo I used as my guide

Will post the completed stand photos later this week.

Very easy to build. All I used to work up a plan were these 3 photos I found online -

Easily adjusted for any size tank - height, width, length. Can be finished any way you choose. One easy way to add a cabinet look is to make the front and sides (no back) and just slide it around the frame.

Because of one of my cats, I will be doing a very unique finishing job. And I have to build another one for the other 29 gal. They will be placed end-to end. Will also be doing a 3 piece canopy build. Same design as on my 75 gal, but in 3 pieces instead of 2.

I could have used 2x4s for the 2 rectangles, but I still would have added a center vertical support, front & back. I like to build things that last.
