My two stands are now one - finally!
Here are some pics of the completed stands. They are all painted and screwed together. I still have to do another coat of poly on the canopy and add the hook and eyes that will hold it open. I ended up not hinging it to the wall - the back edge rests on the 2x3 support board that is screwed into the wall. I also have to finish the tile along the edge of the plywood base.
I will be cleaning the tanks and adding the black sand in the next 2 weeks. Then it's time to aquascape!
Just the stand frames - the flexible black acrylic panels slide into slots at the edges and in the middle. Those areas got a coat of poly, so they look darker.
Complete setup with the black panels inserted and the canopy. The gray stand trim piece is removable for access and keeps the acrylic panels flat against the stand frame.

Wow, stand and tanks look fantastic...you really did an amazing job. I like how the trim pieces look in the grey, breaks it up a little and will really show off the black sand more in the end. AWESOME!!!

Your set-up is looking really good
If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

Your tanks look amazing together!
I know you already have your stocking plan, but since you have side-by-side tanks, have you thought of doing something like the water bridge described in this thread? It would probably significantly affect your stocking plan and would require modifications of your canopy, so I'm not sure you want to do that at this point, but when I saw your two tanks side-by-side I thought of that thread.

Yes...I figured your stocking might prevent it... I'd love to do something like that in the future!
