Thread: Sad day

Just got a call from my mother in law, she wanted to know what time my fiance got home from work and what time I'd be home too...
My fiances dog, a (i believe) 14 yr old springer spaniel passed away last night, and she just wanted me to be home when she had to call and tell her
The dog was very old, so we knew this day was coming. I just am going to have a very very hard time sitting down to dinner with her tonight knowing this and knowing that her mom will be calling shortly thereafter with this news...
On another sad note, they had two springers, max and molly, molly was my fiance's who passed away, max was mollys brother and went everywhere with her, if they were separated he would get very upset (almost violent). Well apparently after my father in law dug the grave for molly max jumped in and laid next to her and wouldn't get out of the hole...finally my father in law was able to get him out, but I've known these dogs for the past 7 yrs and sitting here doing everything i can to not show I'm upset (i'm at work still) plus I will have to not give anything away when I get home.
While I love having pets... this part is always the hardest

It is sad indeed. Still.. I'd say you guys seem to have been lucky. From what I gather these were 14 nice years and it didn't end with a long drawn out sickness and lots of trips to the vet.
Kids got 2 rabbits back in '06 and they're showing the first signs of old age now, already dreading the day I have to call them with bad news. Worst part about pets!

Wow, so sorry to hear about you and your family's loss, Hardy85...Max not wanting to leave his sister's side is bringing this grown man to tears
You and yours will get through this, it will be hard...but I believe Molly is in a better place now...y'all gave her 14 wonderful years here on this Earth, try to think about all the great times you all had together

Hardy, I'm so sorry to hear that, the passing of a beloved pet is never easy. I truly feel for Max he must be missing his sister dearly. I had two cats that were brothers and when the one passed away the brother just sat in their little kitty bed where they napped together cried for days and wouldn't eat. It's been over a year now but I was really worried there at first that he would die of loneliness. I'll be thinking of you guys._______________________________________________

Hardy, sorry to hear about this. Losing an animal is never easy, a fish, dog, cat or other. Sounds like your puppy may be in for a room mate? New puppys take away some sting while at the same time can serve as a loving memory. We all cried when we watched Where the red fern grows.. Just my 2 cents...

yea no idea what the plan will be. I know her parents eventually want another puppy. But I think the plan was for it to be awhile. We really were lucky to have her as long as we did, typically 10-11 yrs is the average for them.
I know she is in a better place. And as soon as I get home I am going to give my pandora a very very large huge (my 2 yr dob). I'm just preparing for a very rough night.

So sorry about Molly. We have been there too many times. it never gets easier. Sending hugs - and I love the Rainbow Bridge story that Slappy sent the link to. I always send that when someone close to me loses a dear pet.

Been there Hardy and it never get easier. Sorry for your lose but the dog had 14 years of a happy life. Reading about how Max acted at the grave site didn't only have Slaphppy7 choked up. It really bites when pets pass away especially dogs for some reason. I feel for you and your fiancé.Warning; Bulldog Pleco guarding my Sons tank now..
