    Default Stocking for a 55

    0 Not allowed!
I have been gone for a whip, but I'm back with a bigger tank and need stocking suggestions. It's a 55 with two 60g tetra power whisper filters. It has to be able to have 1 flame gourami at least 6 bronze corries. And a few guppies thanks.

    I would use two AC70s.

You could put any sort of live bearer in there... anything from swordtails to your guppys... also could do dwarf cichlids... 10 corys easy... I mean its hard to just throw something out there but with what you have given, All live bearers planted with shrimp and your corries? Maybe a bolvian ram or two thrown in?

Agree with either 2-Aqua Clear 110's or add a canister filter to one of those filters you currently have. Filters are good for just about one/half of what is recommended so with both that you currently have, you are on the low size for filtering a 55 gallon.

You can keep the tank simple with lots of driftwood and stones and have a few smaller cichlids or go with a whole group of community fish in larger schools. Cycle the tank first and that will give you a couple weeks to really think of what you would like for stock.

I know gouramis are occasionally aggressive, but I also have heard that the dwarfs aren't, so would it be alright to get another dg?

I really don't think 2 works in a 55, I tried when I first got mine and had issues.

I also agree with the above posts that aquaclears are a better filter option for you, IMO two 110s is great but you will need to baffle the flow (easy DIY).

As for stock, whats listed in my 75 is what I had in my 55, probably a tad overstocked but it worked well (plus I had 6 cories)

I'd recommend a pair of ram cichlids, school of cory, and either a type of live bearer or something else you like as a upper level swimmer

    I was thinking this:
    I dg
    18 serpae tetras
    And
    14 bronze corries

I actually think that would be a great stocking....

FYI the cories will love a sand substrate, i got mine on sand and their behavior is so much better - so consider at least having at least some sand as a substrate

Gourami are very interesting. In my tropical pond(which currently has a bad stocking) has 5 gourami and 1 angel in it. They are all diffirent types and they all swim together. 2 are dwarf, and 3 are regular size(2"-4") The only reason I believe this works is because the pond is 5x7 feet, so they have the room in case they don't get along. Not once have I seen one chase another.

Well, anyways, you could try a few bamboo shrimp. I don't see the tetra attacking these, and from what I hear, these are excellent and non aggressive bottom feeders.

    Good luck with your tank!
