Default 20 gallon high tank stocking question

    0 Not allowed!
I have the Marineland 20G Biowheel LED Aquarium kit. The tank is 24(w)x12(d)x16(h) and comes with a Penguin 150 Biowheel filter. I still have to do a fishless cycle so I'm not close to stocking it with fish yet but I was thinking about doing the following.

    5 Gold Zebra Danios
    5 Cardinal Tetras
2 Platys (1 Gold Mickey Mouse & 1 Red Wag)
    4 Juan Cory Catfish
    2 Tiger Snails

I know the snails don't do much of a bioload but if I have the corys do I need the snails?

    Thanks

    Jerry

You never need snails. Cories.. no idea what "juan cory" is the common name for but a tank of your size is small, if you want cories get 7 pygmy.

The rest.. it's doable I suppose. PErsonally I'd go for one school in a decent number instead of 2.

+ 1 to what talldutch said about snails. I believe the OP is talking about Corydoras Bilineatus - San Juan Cory, one of the rarer Cory speices.

Actually have decided to up to a 45 gallon tank instead, found a better deal so I have returned the 20 gallon. So any ideas on stocking a 45 gallon, I'm open to many ideas of fish suited for a beginner, I just want fish that are not too aggressive and will get along with each other. I would like schooling fish, 1 to 4 for a centrepiece fish and I will stick with the san juan corys for a bottom feeder.

    Thanks

Glad you upgraded to the 45 gallon, good decision. If you like the gold zebra danios, take a look at the long finned gold zebra danios. I would suggest a school of at least 8. They have them at PetSmart. I have 8 of the regular long fin zebra danios from there. They're really nice looking fish, very attractive with the long fins.

Since you went up in size you can at least double your two schools, maybe even go 14-15 Cardinals(very low bio-load) but get at least 6 Cory's, they will be happier in the long run.

The original plan would work. Start with 8 each and slowly double that. Get 8 or 10 of the cories if you can afford them.
