Cheers, yes I think I might stop at the penguins. I'm looking forward to observing some different behaviours in this species.

I've still been thinking about dwarf cichlids but I'm still not sure I want any trace of aggression in this tank - it's my after-work-de-stress!

For now, I'll be happy with penguins. At least I know I have room for an odd addition in the future, should the fancy take me.

Picked up the first batch of penguins tonight. The LFS has a deal on. Buy five, get one free (for schooling fish) so I ended up bringing home 12. The other 12 will be collected next week.

I drip acclimated them in a bucket with a big rock for cover. I really need to get black buckets for this as fish seem to be VERY jumpy in the orange ones. Within a few minutes they were leaping (which is what my cherry barbs did).

As soon as I noticed the jumping I cling-filmed the bucket and covered it with an obliging book.

I've just put them in the tank (lights out). The cherry barbs were VERY interested in the new additions, but seem to be behaving themselves. The penguins are pretty little so they have some growing to do.

Photos with the lights on later.

I was pretty confused seeing "penguin" get thrown around. Did some googling and found out what tetra they were. I've known them from a different name, Hockey Stick Tertas. Congrats on the new arrivals though, I hope they do well in the tank.

I'm not sure about the bucket but I have noticed that darker acclimating buckets keep the fish calmer. Maybe it makes them feel more secure?

Yes I believe it does. When I moved the old tank into the spare room I put all the fish in a big black tug-tub and they didn't jump once whilst they were in there. It must be the lightness of the bucket...or maybe fish just don't like orange!

The lights are on on the tank now - all seem ok, although I seem to have picked one up with a bitten off tail. Looks like it will grow back ok though. They've fed now. I'll get some snaps later.

Ok, a couple of snaps of the beasties.

    Spot the stumpy tailed one.

These have come out a bit intense - I haven't altered the colour saturation on these at all. I might try de-saturating the next lot of photos as I think my lights are making it too neon.

I love the way they all stay together, great schooling fish, old stump-tail will probably recover completely with how well you keep your tank conditions. Great choice my friend.
