Bloody hell, I got up this morning to only see about five or six of them. Switched the lights on and still couldn't see any. None had been sucked into the Juwel filter. Then I found four, apparently stuck up against the big sponge pre-filter of the external - bizarre, even the shrimp don't get stuck to this. I moved it and they all swam off, apparently fine. Do they like to sleep in tight spots, against something? The flow is quite fast in that tank from the Juwel at the surface, but nothing else finds it difficult. No plants blowing around wildly or anything. How odd.

Counted ten before I left for work. Hmmm...I wonder if they're too little at the moment.

+1. Lovely school. My longfin danio's tail has completely grown back. Good, clean water will make stumpy whole again.

Got back from work to see a school of 11. One missing. I can't find it anywhere. Very disappointed to have lost one so quickly. This is my second new addition loss in 18 months. Maybe weak stock? Water parameters are clear.

Was it the "stumpy tailed one"? If so maybe he wasn't healthy after all.

Nope, stumpy is alive and well. I'm quite fond of it now. I always like the underdog.

Ugh...I found the dead one. For a minute I thought it was another one dead as I could only count ten in the school, but it's not, it's the original missing one. It was floating around the frogbit. Body looks ok with clean eyes and shape, althougth the stomach looked a bit like it had split a bit. Not sure if that's because I've overfed them or the body has been pecked at a bit or nibbled by snails overnight.

Going to be monitoring them closely tonight and will be very anxious to check them first thing! I'm up at 6am of late so will be watching them like a hawk. I so want this school to work!

They are unusual fish. When they lights are on they hang in the bright light, right at the top. When the lights go out they panic horribly for a few moments (scattering) before trying to find hiding places. I've never seen anything like it and I'm not sure if this is species specific or just because they are very new and unsettled. They seem far happier/calmer with the lights on which I've not seen before.

Doesn't sound unusual to me. My Dwarf Pencils do the same exact thing
