    Default A new start: Ripley

After my work buddy, Mooch, died a few weeks ago, I decided to to redo the tank. Out went the plastic/silk plants and the resin rock ornament, and in went quartz & live plants (Anacharis, Java fern and duckweed). I moved the filter media to a Tetra Whisper and kept the cycle going.

Today, Ripley moved in! I had been thinking of getting a dragon scale, but the ones in stock didn't speak to me, and here was this guy, all lively. His main points, aside from perkiness, are:

    • He doesn't look anything like Mooch.
    • He's a light color, so I can find him in all the greenery.

Out of curiosity, I tested his store-cup water with a dipstick: nitrates 80, nitrites 5, ammonia 3. He was basically living in an outhouse.

After a nice slow acclimation, he's really chugging along exploring his new digs. Mooch had such ornate, draggy fins, it's surprising to see how sleek and fast the little veiltail is.

    Very pretty little guy ^^

The probability of being watched is directly proportional to the stupidity of the act
