I have always said that people in Northern Michigan are not too big on tropical fish. If fish aren't hanging off the end of a pole or cooked on the grill, they could care less about fish. I've invested 10-12 years into this and decided to get out of it for numerous reasons.

    1) I live in an apartment and can't have the size tanks I want. (The size limit is 30 gallons and I moved in here 5 years ago with 3-55's, a 29, 10 and 5.) Didn't take me long to give one of those 55's to my son!
    2) No fish stores within a 2 hour drive for me.
    3) Always worrying about a leak and having to replace the residents furniture on the floor below me.
    4) And getting old is not conducive to moving fish tanks anymore.

My blood parrots sold right away for $50. They went to a man with 125 gallon so I was OK with that. I gave away my 3 bristle nose, corys and a few odd balls and moved 2 dozens tetra's and the driftwood to my sons tank at his house. So now in my living room sits boxes of junk, two empty 55 gallons, and 6 boxes of substrate and no interest in my ads all over. *sheesh*

I have learned one thing from this hobby. You take a beating when you buy the stuff but take a bigger beating when you try to sell it. 50 plants all went in the trash and my angelfish got moved into my 29 gallon with my cherry barbs and the neon's. Although the angel seems fine, he has always had 55 gallons so I may continue trying to find a bigger home for him. Two people have asked for him but both of them already have a male angel in their tanks so I would not give him to them for him to get the snot beat out of him.

Perhaps he is frustrated, tho, because he has decided to spend his days beating up on one leaf on the anubias plant although the tank is full of anubias. It's quite strange to watch him as he will swim away from it then rush back to beat up on it a bit more. Has he lost his mind in this move, ya think?

Sorry to see you get out of it LadyH, but if it's not fun anymore its time to go. Hobbies are supposed to be fun, if they become a chore then it's not a hobby anymore, it's work.

But maybe you can hang on to a smaller tank and keep some easy plants and a betta around to keep your hand in? And folks around here will still need your pearls of fish wisdom.

    My exact reaction as well
If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

I didn't say I don't like keeping fish anymore. I am leaving it for reasons beyond my control........like turning 70 and living on the 5th floor of an apartment building.

I have my 29 and nothing but snails in my 10 gallon and a 5 gallon crammed under my bed (hospital tank.)

Sorry to hear this LH, you've been such a big part of this forum in the almost year I've been here and obviously the year's before that. There are a few people that if you get reped by or recieve a gift from from you know you said something right and you are one of those.

Your wit and dry humor will certainly be missed. I hope your going to stay on the forum and give advice.

Good luck in whatever the future brings you.

As much as I hate your decision, I still have to say I understand why you made it and I think it is the best choice for you. I hope you stick around here or at least stop in from time to time because I will miss you terribly. Besides, everyone else but you is tired of my non-stop grandson pictures.

I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.
Tolerance is a great thing to have, so is the ability to shut up.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

    Love your picture!!!!! LOL

Oh, I gotta stop in and say hi and collect my PM's. I don't want to miss out on the gossip or at least be able to start some. :)

I can still enjoy the fish but without the work! And expense! My little 29 gallon if full of plants as well as my 10 gallon so that will have to do me.

I'm really sad to hear you will be leaving the hobby, you have certainly helped so many people take their first steps in the hobby, myself included. It is totally understandable though from what have stated and I wish you the best
